The Colors of Racing
Lady in Red
1990: The Saratoga Racing Season
It wouldn’t be Saratoga, and it certainly wouldn’t be the Travers, without the fabulous fashions at the track. The grandest hats go side-by-side with trim, straw boaters. And there is always as much activity off the track as on to keep your attention..

Notes:
In August 1989 I visited the legendary Woody Stephens in his clubhouse box, to show him the poster I had just done featuring his horse Forty-Niner.
I actually got more than I bargained for that afternoon. Directly over Woody Stephen’s shoulder and down two or three boxes I noticed a woman seated with her two grown daughters. The woman was strikingly beautiful. She wore a red silk jacket and a large red hat. Just as I was turning to leave, she picked up a pair of binoculars and with practiced insouciance began to scan the scene.
