Breeders’ Cup and Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense came to Saratoga with quite a résumé — and didn't disappoint. But, it was the way that jockey Calvin Borel treated his mount that caught my eye. After the race, even before dismounting, Borel cooled his horse’s face with great splashes of water and ebullient affection. It was heart-warming to watch. Borel is clearly a world-class rider, but just as clearly a genuine character. So, when, in the last few strides of one of the most important races of his career, he turned in the saddle to take a long look under his arm at his competitor Robby Albarado on the charging Grasshopper, I knew that had to be the image for this year’s poster. Friends in fast company, what could be better?
