    Successful gallery show

    A wonderful new gallery came to Saratoga and I am pleased to have my work there. Spa Fine Art Gallery in the Arcade Building in Saratoga Springs, NY is in a perfect location. At 376 Broadway, near Phila Street, it's practically across the street from the famous Adelphi Hotel. We had a great first season. Most of the major pieces sold as did many of the smaller prints. We even sold a bundle of our book — “The History & Art of 25 Travers.” I want to thank everyone who came by to talk or to purchase a print. It was fun to meet you. I am working on replenishing the gallery so we have prints for the fall holidays. If you are in Saratoga, please stop in the gallery and talk to Susan, Cynthia, Tracy or Emily. They are the reason things went so well this year!

    A brush with the best

    Pat Day, Edgar Prado, Alan Garcia, Greg Montgomery I met and signed posters and books with some of my favorite jockeys here in Saratoga this week. None other than the amazing Pat Day, Edgar Prado and Alan Garcia came to Impressions at 368 Broadway in Saratoga to autograph posters and meet their fans. Mare Barker and her wonderful crew at Impressions have made a summer ritual out of rounding up some of the top jockeys in Saratoga each summer for this event. It's the best place to meet these amazing athletes and to see all the racing artwork on display. It was a beautiful night and Saratoga was bustling with people enjoying the season. They are great guys and good to their fans, but their day begins at about 4 a.m. So, we finished up early. It's pretty clear I am not jockey material. G

    2009 Travers poster is here

    As these two beautiful horses and their riders walked the peaceful, leafy path to the track for the 139th running of Saratoga’s Travers Stakes, it was not at all evident that less than an inch would separate them at the finish. Jockey Garrett Gomez on WinStar Farm's Colonel John held off the hard-charging Mambo in Seattle in a duel that had 40,723 people standing at their seats. It was the perfect August day and the perfect Travers race.

    This is the 24th poster in the longest-running series of its kind. The 2009 Travers poster (and the Saratoga version) will be available after June 6, 2009 on this web site and at selected stores and galleries in Saratoga Springs. See you at the track.

    2009 Poster Release Reception

    Crafters Gallery on Broadway in Saratoga is hosting a reception for me to celebrate the release of my 2009 poster. Each year since 1986 I have created a print dedicated to Saratoga's premier race, the Travers. I try to capture the essence, the moment, the excitement of Saratoga's thoroughbred racing meet. Over the years these prints have been collected worldwide and have become an annual "must have" for racing fans with many editions being sold out. Some of my original works will also be displayed during this reception. Hope to see you there.

    "25 Travers" show opens at Townsend Park Bakery Café

    Just in time for the holidays, select pieces from this summer's exciting "25 Years of the Travers" show in Saratoga are on display at the Townsend Park Bakery Café — the newest food and art venue on Townsend Park in Albany, NY — where Washington and Central come together. Mark Smith, owner and developer has devoted a large gallery to showcasing some of the original limited edition silkscreen and giclée prints that created racing's longest running poster series. The exhibit is up through December 31, 2008 at the Townsend Park Bakery Café, 238 Washington Avenue, between Lark St. and Northern Blvd., Mon-Sat 11 am-9 p.m. Phone: 518 462-2881.
