The Travers Trophy is the Man o 'War Cup. Named after Man o'War, winner of the Travers Stakes in 1920 who went on to beat Sir Barton, the first winner of the American Triple Crown. It was fashioned by Tiffany & Co. The cup was donated to Saratoga Race Course by Mrs. Sam (Elizabeth) Riddle in 1936 to become the permanent Travers trophy. A gold replica of the cup is presented to the winner of the Travers each year.
This year marks the 150th Running of the Travers Stakes - America's oldest grade 1 stakes race for three-year-old thoroughbreds. To us, nothing better symbolizes the Travers and its history than this historic cup.
This year's poster links the past with the present by showing the track reflected in the golden bowl of the cup. The iconic red and white striped awnings and the red geraniums can all be seen reflected in the ornate golden trophy. Seen on the track are the horses from 2018 Travers with Catholic Boy in the lead!
Two Poster Versions: This poster comes in both a Travers, and a Saratoga version. The artwork is the same on both posters, only the type changes. Look for the "Poster Version" pull-down menu above the price to see and select one.
All posters are hand signed by Greg Montgomery. For special attributions (Congratulations, See you next year!, etc.) Please fill out the Special Instructions Box at Checkout.
